Accepting God's Decree

لِلَّهِ سُبْحَانَهُ عَلَى عَبْدِهِ أَمْرٌ أَمَرَهُ بِهِ

To Allah, glory be to Him, belongs a command He has given to His servant.

وَقَضَاء يَقْضِيه عَلَيْهِ ونعمة ينعم بهَا عَلَيْهِ فَلَا يَنْفَكّ من هَذِه الثَّلَاثَة

And a decree He executes upon him, and a blessing He bestows upon him, so he does not separate from these three.

وَالْقَضَاء نَوْعَانِ إِمَّا مصائب وَإِمَّا معائب

The decree is of two types: either calamities or faults.

وَلَهُ عَلَيْهِ عُبُودِيَّةٌ فِي هَذِهِ المَرَاتِبِ كُلِّهَا

And He has a right to the servant's worship in all of these ranks.

فَأَحَبُّ الخَلْقِ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ عَرَفَ عُبُودِيَّتَهُ فِي هَذِهِ المَرَاتِبِ وَوَفَّاهَا حَقَّهَا

So the most beloved of creation to Him is the one who knows his servitude in these ranks and fulfills its due right.

فَهَذَا أَقْرَبُ الخَلْقِ إِلَيْهِ

So this one is the closest of creation to Him.

وَأَبْعَدُهُم مِنْهُ مَنْ جَهِلَ عُبُودِيَّتَهُ فِي هَذِهِ المَرَاتِبِ فَعَطَّلَهَا عِلْمًا وَعَمَلًا

And the furthest from Him are those who are ignorant of their servitude in these ranks and neglect it in knowledge and action.

فعبوديته فِي الْأَمر وامتثاله اخلاصا واقتداءا برَسُول الله

So his servitude regarding the command is by complying with sincerity and emulating the Messenger of Allah.

وَفِي النَّهْيِ اِجْتِنَابُهُ خَوْفًا مِنْهُ وَإِجْلَالًا وَمَحَبَّةً

And concerning the prohibition, by avoiding it out of fear of Him, reverence, and love.

وَعُبُودِيَّتُهُ فِي قَضَاءِ المَصَائِبِ الصَّبْرُ عَلَيْهَا

And his servitude in the decree of calamities is patience upon them.

ثُمَّ الرِّضَا بِهَا وَهُوَ أَعْلَى مِنْهُ

Then acceptance of them, which is higher than that.

ثُمَّ الشُّكْرُ عَلَيْهَا وَهُوَ أَعْلَى مِنَ الرِّضَا

Then gratitude for them, which is higher than acceptance.

وَهَذَا إِنَّمَا يَأْتِي مِنْهُ إِذَا تَمَكَّنَ حُبُّهُ مِنْ قَلْبِهِ

And this only comes from him when His love is firmly rooted in his heart.

وَعِلْمُ حُسْنِ اِخْتِيَارِهِ لَهُ وَبِرِّهِ بِهِ وَلُطْفِهِ بِهِ

And the knowledge of His good choice for him, His kindness to him, and His subtlety with him.
