A Bedouin used to lead his people in prayer in the desert,
He recited in the morning prayer 'Say, He is Allah, the One,' until he reached 'and there is none equal to Him,' then said: O Allah, if there is anyone on earth, make him my equal.
They asked him: Why did you pray for this?
He said: Because I heard Allah say, '[Nor is there to Him any equivalent],' so I wanted to be that equivalent if it existed.
The people laughed at his naivety.
From the oversights of the Bedouins: A Bedouin entered Makkah and circumambulated the Ka'bah,
Then he said: O Allah, I ask you as Ibrahim and Ismail asked you, so direct the hearts of the people towards them.
He was told: Indeed, Ibrahim and Ismail prayed that the hearts of the people be directed to this house,
And you are praying that they be directed to them!
He said: Is it appropriate for me to pray that they be directed to me while I am nothing?
