وآخر منهم إن حضر في ختمة أو تلا في محراب جعل ديدنه إحضار غرائب الوجوه والسكت،

Another of them, when present at a completion or when reciting in the prayer niche, made it his habit to produce strange facial expressions and to remain silent.

وَالْتَهَوُّعُ بِالتَّسْهِيلِ وَأَتَى بكل خلاف وَنَادَى عَلَى نَفْسِهِ أَنَا أَبُو فُلَانَ فَاعْرِفُونِي فَإِنِّي عَارِفٌ بِالسَّبْعِ

He put on an ostentatious display of making things easy, entered every dispute, and cried out about his self, "I am the father of so-and-so; recognize me, for I know of the seven."

إيشَ يُعمَلُ بِكَ

What can be done with you?

لَا صَبَّحَكَ اللَّهُ بِخَيْرٍ

May God not grant you morning with good.

إِنَّكَ حَجَرُ مَنْجَنِيقٍ وَرَصَاصٌ عَلَى الأَفْئِدَةِ

You are a catapult stone and lead upon the hearts.

علم الحديث والمحدثون فغالبهم لا يفقهون ولا همة لهم في معرفة الحديث ولا في التدين به، بل الصحيح والموضوع عندهم بنسبة

The science of Hadith and its scholars: most of them do not understand, nor do they care about knowing the Hadith or practicing it; rather, the authentic and the fabricated are the same to them.

إنما همتهم في السماع على جهلة الشيوخ، وتكثير العدد من الأجزاء والرواة،

Their only concern is listening to ignorant scholars and accumulating large numbers of volumes and narrators.

لَا يَتَأَدَّبُونَ بِآدَابِ الحَدِيثِ وَلَا يَسْتَفِيقُونَ مِنْ سَكْرَةِ السَّمَاعِ

They do not observe the etiquettes of the Hadith, nor do they awaken from the intoxication of listening.

الآنَ يَسْمَعُ الجُزْءَ وَ نَفْسُهُ تُحَدِّثُهُ مَتَى يَرْوِيهِ

Now he listens to the part and his self talks to him: When will he narrate it?

أَبَعْدَ الخَمْسِينَ سَنَةً

After fifty years!

وَيْحَكَ مَا أَطْوَلَ أَمَلَكَ وَأَسْوَأَ عَمَلَكَ

Woe to you! How long are your hopes, and how bad are your deeds!
