  Al‑Shāfiʿī, may Allah be pleased with him, said: "Hold to asceticism, for asceticism upon the ascetic is more beautiful than jewelry upon a young woman."

  الحُلَىٰ — the adornment. Definite noun, 'the jewelry', governed by 'than' into the owned form. It is the worldly adornment being compared against asceticism; the 'the' marks it as the known category of ornament.
