And al‑Rabīʿ, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 'Al‑Shāfiʿī said to me, "O Rabīʿ..."'
الرَّبِيعُ — al‑Rabīʿ (proper name). A proper name, al-Rabi', the subject of 'said'. The leading 'the' has merged into the following sound; it stands in the subject form as the one reporting.
