How to say “ask” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَمْ يَسْتَفْهِمْهَا كَلَامًا قِطًّا
He never asked her anything verbally.
يَسْتَفْهِمْهَا — he asks her. A present-shaped verb forced into its jussive (clipped) ending by the 'did not' particle before it; this combination is Arabic's way of saying 'he did not...' about the past. It carries a built-in 'he' subject and an attached '-ha' (her) object, 'he did not ask her'. The clipped ending is the audible trace of that negation.
