Arabic vocabulary
How to say “death” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَتَاهُ الْمَوْتُ،
Death came to him.
الْمَوْتُ — death. This noun takes the 'al-' prefix marking it as definite, like English 'the death'. Although it follows the verb, it is actually the doer of the action here, the thing that came; Arabic often places the subject after its verb, so position alone does not tell you the doer, the case ending does.
