And my father went out to haggle over its price.
يَنْتَقِدُ — haggle over. A present-tense verb following the past 'went out', describing the purpose or accompanying action, 'went out [in order] to haggle'. Arabic uses this bare present after a verb of motion to express the aim of going. Its 'he' subject is carried over from the father.
