How to say “resisted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
وَقَاوَمَ الْهَوَى
And it resisted desires.
وَقَاوَمَ — and it resisted. 'wa-' = 'and'; past-tense verb, subject 'it' built in.
From: Intellect and Faith →فقاوم الشهوة مقاومة الفطن لا الغبي،
He resisted desire with the wisdom of the intelligent, not the ignorant.
فَقَاوَمَ — so he resisted. The prefix fa- opens the consequence, and the past-tense verb carries its doer 'he' inside. The verb pattern is the kind built for mutual struggle, giving 'he resisted / fought against', so it reaches its object directly without a separate word for 'against'.
