هُوَ الحَسَنُ بْنُ أَبِي الحَسَنِ البَصْرِيُّ

He is Al-Hasan, son of Abu al-Hasan al-Basri.

كَانَ أَبُوهُ مَوْلًى لِرَجُلٍ مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ

His father was a freedman of a man from the Ansar.

وَكَانَتْ أُمُّهُ مَوْلَاةً لِأُمِّ سَلَمَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

His mother was a freedwoman of Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

رُبِّيَ فِي حِجْرِهَا

He was raised in her care.

وَأَرْضَعَتْهُ بِلَبَانِهَا

She nursed him with her milk.

وَدَرَّ عَلَيْهِ ثَدْيُهَا

Her breast provided for him;

لِبِرِّهَا بِهِ وَمَحَبَّتِهَا لَهُ

due to her kindness and love for him,

فَ عَادَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَرَكَةُ النُّبُوَّةِ

The blessings of prophethood returned upon him,

فَ تَكَلَّمَ بِالْحِكْمَةِ

so he spoke with wisdom,

وَارْتَقَى فِي الصَّلَاحِ وَالْمَعْرِفَةِ إِلَى أَفْضَلِ رُتْبَةٍ

and ascended in piety and knowledge to the highest rank,

وَكَانَ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ أَحَدَ الْمُتَّقِينَ وَمِنْ أَوْلِيَاءِ اللَّهِ الصِّدِّيقِينَ

and may Allah have mercy on him, he was one of the pious and among the true friends of Allah.

رُوِيَ فِي الخَبَرِ أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا سَمِعَتِ الحَسَنَ يَتَكَلَّمُ

It is reported in the narration that Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, heard Al-Hasan speak,

فَ قَالَ مَنْ هَذَا الَّذِي يَتَكَلَّمُ بِكَلَامِ الصِّدِّيقِينَ

She said: Who is this that speaks with the words of the truthful?
