Retaining the Quran

ما تَحْفَظُهُ يَبْنِيكَ طَابِقًا فَوْقَ طَابِقٍ

What you memorize builds you up, floor upon floor.

إِنْ تَرَاكَمَ بِلَا تَخْطِيطٍ صَارَ مَمَرَّاتٍ عَشْوَائِيَّةً

If accumulated without planning, it becomes random pathways.

وَإِنْ رُتِّبَ بِمَفَاتِيحَ وَرَوَابِطَ صَارَ بَيْتًا يَسْهُلُ الرُّجُوعُ إِلَى غُرَفِهِ

And if organized with keys and links, it becomes a house easy to return to its rooms.

ارْبِطِ المَعْنَى بِصُورَةٍ وَحِكَايَةٍ وَمَكَانٍ فِي المُصْحَفِ أَوِ الهَامِشِ

Connect the meaning with an image, a story, and a place in the Quran or the margin;

حينها لا تستدعي الكلمات فقط، بل تستدعي المشهد

Then, you do not only recall the words but also the scene.

وَمَعَ كُلِّ مُرَاجَعَةٍ تُثَبِّتُ الأَعْمِدَةَ وَتُخَفِّفُ الزُّخْرُفَ

With each review, you firm up the pillars and simplify the adornment.

هَكَذَا تَصِيرُ الذَّاكِرَةُ مَسْكَنًا صَالِحًا لِلسُّكْنَى لَا مُسْتَوْدَعَ فَوْضَى

Thus, memory becomes a dwelling fit to live in, not a warehouse of chaos.
