Where Angels Gather

قالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

إِنَّ لِلَّهِ تَعَالَى مَلَائِكَةً يَطُوفُونَ فِي الطُّرُقِ يَلْتَمِسُونَ أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ

Indeed, Allah, the Exalted, has angels who wander the roads seeking the people of remembrance.

فَإِذَا وَجَدُوا قَوْمًا يَذْكُرُونَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ

When they find a group remembering Allah, the Glorious and Majestic,

تَنَادَوْا هَلُمُّوا إِلَى حَاجَتِكُمْ

they call out: "Come to what you seek!"

فَيَحُفُّونَهُم بِأَجْنِحَتِهِمْ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا

They surround them with their wings up to the lowest heaven.

فَيَسْأَلُهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ مَا يَقُولُ عِبَادِي

Their Lord asks them – and He knows best: What do My servants say?

قالَ يَقُولُونَ يُسَبِّحُونَكَ وَيُكَبِّرُونَكَ وَيَحْمَدُونَكَ وَيُمَجِّدُونَكَ

He says: They say: They glorify You, declare Your greatness, praise You, and exalt You.

فَيَقُولُ هَلْ رَأَوْنِي

He says: Have they seen Me?

فيقولون لا لا والله ما رأوك،

They say: No, by Allah, they have not seen You.

فَيَقُولُ كَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْنِي

He says: How would it be if they saw Me?!

قالَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ رَأَوْكَ كَانُوا أَشَدَّ لَكَ عِبَادَةً وَأَشَدَّ لَكَ تَمْجِيدًا وَأَكْثَرَ لَكَ تَسْبِيحًا

They say: If they saw You, they would be more devout in worship, more devoted in glorifying, and more frequent in praising.

فَيَقُولُ فَمَاذَا يَسْأَلُونَ

He says: What do they ask for?

قالَ يَقُولُونَ يَسْأَلُونَكَ الجَنَّةَ

He said: They say: They ask You for Paradise.

قالَ يَقُولُ وَهَلْ رَأَوْهَا

He said: He says: Have they seen it?

قالَ يَقُولُونَ لَا وَاللَّهِ يَا رَبِّ مَا رَأَوْهَا

He said: They say: No, by Allah, O Lord, they have not seen it.

قالَ يَقُولُ فَكَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْهَا

He said: He says: How would it be if they saw it?!

قالَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ أَنَّهُمْ رَأَوْهَا كَانُوا أَشَدَّ عَلَيْهَا حِرْصًا وَأَشَدَّ لَهَا طَلَبًا وَأَعْظَمَ فِيهَا رَغْبَةً

He said: They say: If they had seen it, they would be more eager for it, more earnest in seeking it, and greater in their desire for it.

قالَ فَمِمَّ يَتَعَوَّذُونَ

He said: From what do they seek refuge?

قالَ يَقُولُونَ يَتَعَوَّذُونَ مِنَ النَّارِ

He said: They say: They seek refuge from the Fire.

قالَ فَيَقُولُ وَهَلْ رَأَوْهَا

He said: He says: Have they seen it?

قالَ يَقُولُونَ وَلَا وَاللَّهِ مَا رَأَوْهَا

He said: They say: No, by Allah, they have not seen it.

فَيَقُولُ كَيْفَ لَوْ رَأَوْهَا

He says: How would it be if they saw it?!

قالَ يَقُولُونَ لَوْ رَأَوْهَا كَانُوا أَشَدَّ فِرَارًا وَأَشَدَّ لَهَا مَخَافَةً

He said: They say: If they saw it, they would flee from it more and fear it more.

قالَ يَقُولُ فَأُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي قَدْ غَفَرْتُ لَهُمْ

He said: He says: I make you bear witness that I have forgiven them.

قالَ يَقُولُ مَلَكٌ مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ

He said: An angel among the angels says:

فِيهِمْ فُلَانٌ لَيْسَ مِنْهُمْ إِنَّمَا جَاءَ لِحَاجَةٍ

Among them is so-and-so who is not one of them; he only came for a need.

قالَ هُمُ الْجُلَسَاءُ لَا يَشْقَى بِهِمْ جَلِيسُهُمْ

He said: They are the sitting companions; no one who sits with them will be wretched.
