How to say “Affan” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ،
Uthman ibn Affan,
عَفَّانَ — Affan. The father's proper name, the owned half of 'son of (so-and-so)', so it sits in the genitive that 'son of' imposes. It closes the patronymic, naming the father. As a name it is definite without an al-, and its case is fixed purely by its slot in the name-pairing.
