Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَا تَكُونُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ وَحْدَهُ
So it is only for God alone.
تَكُونُ — it is. A present 'to be' verb whose subject is left unstated and understood as 'it', referring back to worship. Arabic freely drops a clear subject, letting the verb's ending carry it. Negated here, it leads into the exception that narrows the statement to God alone.
