Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be permitted” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَيُؤْذَنُ لِي عَلَيْهِ،
Then I am permitted to approach Him.
فَيُؤْذَنُ — then is permitted. The leading fa- marks consequence, and the verb is in the passive: permission undergoes the granting while who grants it is left unstated, fitting a deferential tone. Arabic marks the passive by changing the inner vowels of the verb, not by adding 'is/was'. The one permitted is named by the phrase that follows.
