How to say “cause” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَانَ سَبَب ذَلِك الملعون الشَّيْطَان
And the cause of that was the accursed Satan.
سَبَبُ — the cause of. This is 'cause, reason' heading a possessive pairing with the demonstrative that follows, 'the cause of that'. It is the subject-complement of 'was', and as the owner-term it takes its definiteness from what it owns. It names what is being identified as the cause.
