How to say “darkness” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَقْبَلَتْ أَغْبَاشُ الظُّلُمَاتِ فَعَادَتِ الأَهْوَاءُ تُنْشِئُ بَدْعًا
The darkened masses drew near, and desires returned, bringing forth innovations.
الظُّلُمَاتِ — the darknesses. The owner-noun in the genitive shape completing a possessive pairing with the masses before it. Being the second half of a side-by-side 'X of Y' pair, it takes the genitive ending. Note the 'al-' is pronounced into the next letter (a sun-letter merge).
