Arabic vocabulary
How to say “whims” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أَقْبَلَتْ أَغْبَاشُ الظُّلُمَاتِ فَعَادَتِ الأَهْوَاءُ تُنْشِئُ بَدْعًا
The darkened masses drew near, and desires returned, bringing forth innovations.
الأَهْوَاءُ — the desires. A collective noun standing as the subject of the returning, grouping many desires as a single body. English needs a plural 'desires', but Arabic carries the whole set in one collective form taking a singular verb.
