How to say “girdle” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلِذَلِكَ كَانَتْ تُسَمَّى ذَاتَ النِّطَاقِ،
And for that reason she was called She of the Girdle,
النِّطَاقِ — the girdle. A noun made specific by al-, 'the girdle', as the owning half of the 'She of ...' epithet; it closes the pair and so takes the genitive (the tail kasra). The doubled sound at the start is al- blending into the noun's first letter, a sound-rule, not a separate mark.
