How to say “hardship” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَاسْتَغَلَّ مِحْنَةَ أَبِيهِ،
So he took advantage of his father's hardship,
مِحْنَةَ — hardship. This noun is the direct target of the verb's action and also the head of an ownership pair with the next word. As the leader of that pair it carries no 'the' and takes its definiteness from the owner that follows. So one noun is at once the object taken advantage of and the opener of a possessive chain.
