Arabic vocabulary
How to say “illusion” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
أخيال يعتري المبتدع أو جنون أو مس،
Is it an illusion that afflicts the innovator, or madness or possession?
أَخْيَالٌ — an illusion. The leading particle here is a question marker fused onto the noun, turning the line into 'is it an illusion?'. Arabic forms a yes-no question by prefixing this marker rather than by changing word order as English does, and the -un ending shows the noun is indefinite.
