Arabic vocabulary
How to say “letter” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لَيْتَنِي أَكُونُ حَيًّا ذَكَرَ حَرْفًا
I wish I were alive to hear him mention a single letter.
حَرْفًا — a single letter. The thing mentioned, sitting as the object of 'mentioned', so it wears the -an accusative that marks what an action falls on. It is left indefinite, 'a (single) letter', which together with the verb stresses how even one word would be treasured.
