Arabic vocabulary
مَحَبَّةٍ is how you say “love” in Arabic. Hear it pronounced and see it used in a real example sentence from classical texts below.
طَاعَةً بِطَاعَةٍ وَمَعْصِيَةً بِمَحَبَّةٍ
Obedience for the sake of obedience, and disobedience for the sake of love.
بِمَحَبَّةٍ — by love. The 'bi-' here again marks exchange or cause ('in return for / by'), but this time it pairs disobedience with LOVE rather than its like, the surprising twist of the reckoning. It governs the following noun in the genitive ending.
