Arabic vocabulary
How to say “names” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
عَلَّمَهُ أَرْبَعَةَ أَسْمَاءٍ مِنْ أَسْمَائِهِ
He taught him four of His names.
أَسمَاء — names. A plural noun, 'names', counted by the preceding 'four'. As the noun a number from three to ten counts, it takes the 'of' (genitive) ending, even though the number itself is the object. This split shows how Arabic case-marks the number and its counted noun differently.
