How to say “non-Arab” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَالْأَعْجَمِيُّ يَصِيحُ زَنَهَارَ وَالْبَنِينَ
And the non-Arab cries out an onomatopoeic cry, and the boys.
وَالْأَعْجَمِيُّ — and the non-Arab. The connector wa- ('and') plus al- ('the') fused onto an adjective used as a noun — 'the non-Arab'. The wa- sets this figure beside the Arab of the previous line as a parallel case. Using a describing word by itself as a noun is a common Arabic move, naming a person by a trait.
