Arabic vocabulary
How to say “old” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَكَانَ شَيْخًا كَبِيرًا قَدْ عَمِيَ
He was an old man who had become blind.
كَبِيرًا — old. An adjective trailing its noun, the normal Arabic order: the described thing comes first, its quality second. It copies the noun's grammar to show they belong together, so it carries the same -an accusative ending forced by kaana on the pair. English instead stacks the adjective in front of the noun.
