Arabic vocabulary
How to say “old age” in Arabic, with pronunciation and real example sentences from OpenArabic texts.
فاغتنم أيام شبابك قبل هرمك،
So seize the days of your youth before your old age.
هَرَمِكَ — your old age. A noun 'old age' with an attached 'your' fused on, completing the 'before' phrase: before your old age. The possessor rides on the suffix; it names the deadline for seizing youth.
From: Seize the Days You Have →وكثرة الحامض تسرع الهرم
Excessive sourness accelerates aging.
الهَرَمَ — aging. The al- marks this definite, 'the aging', and it is the direct object of the verb before it, in the object ending. The ending, not the word order alone, signals that aging is the thing being hastened.
