One of them is to set up for Allah an equal and worship something else, such as a stone, tree, sun, moon, prophet, saint, star, angel, or anything else.
يَجْعَلَ — he set up. A present-tense verb in the 'aim' shape required by the preceding particle, 'he sets up', with its 'he' subject built in. The shape marks it as part of a defining infinitive-like phrase, not a plain statement.
From: The Sin of Idolatry →وَهُوَ عَنْ أَحَدِهِمَا أَرْضَى فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ لَهُ فِي حَيَّاتِهِ ثُلْثَيَ مَالِهِ
And he favored one of them, so he intended to give him two-thirds of his wealth during his lifetime.
يَجْعَلَ — give. A present-tense verb pushed into the subjunctive by the 'to' particle before it, here meaning 'assign/give'. The changed ending marks the giving as the goal of his intention, not something already done.
From: Wealth and Knowledge on Trial →وَأَنْ يَجْعَلَهُ خَالِصًا لِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ،
And make it purely for His Generous Face,
يَجْعَلَهُ — he makes it. A present-tense verb whose 'ya-' prefix carries a 'he' subject, pushed into its softened shape by the particle before it, with '-hu' (it) attached as object. That softened form is what makes it part of the request, 'that He make it', rather than a plain statement.
From: Guidance for the Seeker →فَحَقِيقَةُ الصَّبْرِ أَنْ يَجْعَلَ قُوَّةَ الإِقْدَامِ مَصْرُوفَةً إِلَى مَا يُنْفِعُهُ
The reality of patience is to direct the power of taking action toward what benefits him.
يَجْعَلَ — one makes. A present-tense verb ('one makes/directs') with its ending in the subjunctive because the 'that' particle before it governs it. The subjunctive ending is the sign it sits inside the 'to...' clause, read generically as 'one'.
From: Patience and the Human Self →وَأَنْ يَجْعَلَنَا مِنْ أَتْبَاعِهِمْ
And that He make us among their followers.
يَجْعَلَنَا — He make us. A present-tense 'he' verb in its subjunctive shape, triggered by the 'that' particle just before it, with -na ('us') attached as its object. The subjunctive ending is the grammatical fingerprint of the preceding particle, marking this making as the content of the wish rather than a current event.
