How to say “Shall I milk” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
قُلْتُ أَفَتَحْلُبُ
I said, "Shall I milk?"
أَفَتَحْلُبُ — Shall I milk. A stacked chunk: the question-marker 'a-' plus the linker 'fa-' (then) plus a present-tense verb carrying its own subject, giving a tentative 'shall I then milk?'. The 'a-' flags the whole line as a question and the 'fa-' ties it to the prior exchange. The present verb here floats an offer rather than reporting a fact.
