Arabic vocabulary
How to say “some fuel” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَيُوقِدُ وَقُودًا رَفِيقًا
Then he lights some thin kindling.
وقودًا — some fuel. A joining wa- on the front, then an indefinite noun whose final -an ending marks it both as 'some, any fuel' and as the direct object receiving the action. That accusative ending is the signal that this noun is what gets lit, not the one doing the lighting. So the word's shape itself flags its role as the thing acted upon.
