Arabic vocabulary
How to say “standing / present” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَإِذَا هُوَ قَائِمٌ خَلْفَ جِدَارٍ،
Then he was standing behind a wall.
قَائِمٌ — standing. A doer-noun ('one standing') working as the predicate of the verbless clause, describing the man's posture rather than naming a single action. Arabic links it to the 'he' before it with no 'is', so the participle alone carries 'he was standing'.
