How to say “struck us” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
حَتَّى أَصَابَتْنَا مَخْمَصَةٌ شَدِيدَةٌ،
Until severe hunger struck us,
أَصَابَتْنَا — struck us. A finished-action verb for a feminine subject (the -t), with -na, 'us', glued on as its object; the doer (the hunger named next) is supplied after. So the word holds the striking and its victims while the subject follows, an order Arabic allows.
