Arabic vocabulary
How to say “take” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَمْ يَتَنَاوَلْ مِنْهَا شَيْئًا،
And he did not take any of it.
يَتَنَاوَلْ — he take. A present-form verb 'take' forced into its clipped, vowelless ending because 'did not' governs it, giving past 'did not take'; the 'he' subject is built in. This added-letter verb pattern carries a 'take for oneself' sense. The clipped ending is the visible mark of the past negation.
