How to say “the Friend of” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَكِنْ إِئْتُوا إِبْرَاهِيمَ خَلِيلَ الرَّحْمَنِ
But go to Abraham, the Friend of the Most Merciful.
خَلِيلَ — the Friend of. A noun-epithet standing in apposition to the name before it, renaming the same person with a title; it shares that name's object case. It also heads a possessive pairing, taking the 'of' form's partner slot and reaching forward to the next word to say whose close friend he is. So it leans on what follows.
