Arabic vocabulary
How to say “their number” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لا كُثْرٌ اللَّهُ مَثَلُهُمْ ،
May God not increase their number.
مَثَلُهُمْ — their number. This noun ends in the attached '-hum' (their), a plural possessor pronoun glued to its tail. The '-hum' reaches back to the disparaged group spoken of earlier, and the noun itself is the thing the prayer asks not to be multiplied, so the suffix is what ties the wish to those specific people.
