He said, then he disputed with him.
فَخَصْمُهُ — then he disputed with him. The connector 'fa-' (then/so) on a verb of disputing carrying the object pronoun '-hu' (him): so one word holds the sequence-marker, the verb, its hidden 'he' subject, and the 'him' it contests with. The 'fa-' marks this as the consequence, the dispute breaking out as a result. The opponent is the attached '-hu'.
