How to say “to wake up” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَوَافَقْتُهُ حِينَ اِسْتَيْقَظَ،
So I came upon him when he woke up,
اِسْتَيْقَظَ — he woke up. A past-tense verb with its 'he' subject built in, built on a stem-pattern that here carries a 'came-to' sense, 'he woke up'. It names the moment the time-word 'when' set up. The third-person masculine doer is folded into the verb's shape.
