Arabic vocabulary
How to say “tongue” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
الْلِّسَانُ وَالْعَيْنُ
The tongue and the eye.
الْلِّسَانُ — the tongue. A definite noun carrying 'the'. Here the 'l' of 'the' blends into the noun's first letter and is pronounced as a doubling of that letter rather than as a separate 'l' sound, a regular feature with certain letters. So 'the tongue' sounds run together, though written with the article.
