Arabic vocabulary
How to say “two fundamentals” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَالْأَصْلَيْنِ وَالنَّحْوَ وَاللُّغَةَ وَالشِّعْرَ،
and foundational principles, grammar, language, and poetry.
وَالْأَصْلَيْنِ — and the two fundamentals. This token fuses the linking wa- with a dual noun: the '-ayn' ending packs 'exactly two' of these foundational sciences into the word itself, a count Arabic carries in the ending rather than with a separate 'two'. The wa- continues the list of fields. The dual is a form English lacks entirely.
