On the authority of his father, he said: When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, set out.
It was the Year of the Conquest, and that news reached the Quraysh.
Abu Sufyan ibn Harb, Hakim ibn Hizam, and Budayl ibn Warqa went out.
They seek news about the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.
They then set out walking until they reached Marr al-Zahran.
Then they were among fires, as if they were the fires of Arafah.
Abu Sufyan said, "What are these? They look like the fires of Arafat."
Then Budayl ibn Warqa said, "These are the fires of the sons of Amr."
Abu Sufyan said, "Amr is less than that."
Then men from the guard of the Messenger of God saw them.
Then they caught up with them and seized them.
So they brought them to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
Then Abu Sufyan embraced Islam.
When he set out, he said to al-Abbas.
Detain Abu Sufyan at Hatm al-Khayl.
Until he could see the Muslims.
So al-Abbas detained him.
So the tribes began to pass by with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace.
Unit after unit passes by Abu Sufyan.
Then a detachment passed by. He said, "O Abbas, who are these?"
He said, "This is Ghifar."
He said, "What do I have to do with Ghifar?"
Then Juhayna passed by.
He said the same.
Then Sa'd ibn Hudhaym passed by.
So he said the same.
And Sulaym passed by,
So he said the same.
Until a company arrived unlike any he had ever seen,
He said, "Who is this?"
He said, "These are the Ansar."
Sa'd ibn Ubadah is with them, and the banner is with him.
Then Sa'd ibn 'Ubada said, "O Abu Sufyan."
Today is the day of the great battle; today the Kaaba will be desecrated.
So Abu Sufyan said, "O Abbas, how excellent is the Day of Dhimar."
Then a detachment arrived, and it was the smallest of the detachments.
Among them were the Messenger of God, may God send blessings upon him and grant him peace, and his companions.
The Prophet's standard, may God bless him and grant him peace, was with al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam,
When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by Abu Sufyan.
He said, "Did you not know what Sa'd ibn Ubadah said?"
He said what he said, saying such and such.
He said, "Sa'd lied; but this is a day on which God magnifies the Kaaba."
And a day on which the Kaaba is clothed.
He said, and the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ordered that his banner be planted at al-Hajun.
Urwa said, and Nafi', son of Jubayr, son of Mut'im, told me.
He said, "I heard al‑Abbas say to al‑Zubayr ibn al‑Awwam, O Abu Abd Allah,"
Here the Messenger of God commanded you to plant the banner.
He said, and on that day the Messenger of Allah gave the order.
Khalid ibn al-Walid was to enter from the highest part of Mecca, from Kuda.
And the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, entered from Kuda.
So two men from Khalid's horsemen were killed that day.
Hubaysh, son of al-Ash'ar, and Kurz, son of Jabir al-Fihri.
