Following Desires

وَإِذَا لَأَتَيْنَاهُمْ مِنْ لَدُنَّا أَجْرًا عَظِيمًا وَلَهَدَيْنَاهُمْ صِرَاطًا مُسْتَقِيمًا

And if We were to give them from Us a great reward, and (so) guide them to a straight path.

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى الْحَدِيدُ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اتَّقُوا اللَّهَ وَآمِنُوا بِرَسُولِهِ يُؤْتِكُمْ كِفْلَيْنِ مِنْ رَحْمَتِهِ وَيَجْعَلُ لَكُمْ نُورًا تَمْشُونَ بِهِ

And the Exalted said (in Sūrah al‑Hadīd): “O you who have believed, fear Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will grant you a double portion of His mercy and will make for you a light by which you will walk.”

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى الْبَقَرَةُ اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ

And the Exalted said (in Sūrah al‑Baqarah): “Allah is the guardian (walī) of those who have believed; He brings them out from the darknesses into the light.”

وَقَالَ تَعَالَى الْمَائِدَةُ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ نُورٌ وَكِتَابٌ مُبِينٌ يَهْدِي بِهِ اللَّهُ مَنْ اتَّبَعَ رِضْوَانَهُ سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ

And the Exalted said (in Sūrah al‑Mā'idah): “There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book; by it Allah guides whoever follows His good pleasure to the ways of peace.”

الآيَةُ وَشَوَاهِدُ هَذَا كَثِيرَةٌ فِي الْكِتَابِ وَالسُّنَّةِ

This verse and the evidences of this are many in the Book and the Sunnah.

وَكَذَلِكَ مَنْ أَعْرَضَ عَنْ اتِّبَاعِ الْحَقِّ الَّذِي يُعَلَّمُهُ تَبَعًا لِهَوَاهُ فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ يُورِثُهُ الْجَهْلَ وَالضَّلَالَ حَتَّى يَعْمَى قَلْبُهُ عَنِ الْحَقِّ الْوَاضِحِ

And likewise: whoever turns away from following the truth that is taught to him, following his own desire, then that (attitude) will beget in him ignorance and misguidance until his heart becomes blind to the clear truth.
