How to say “a hundred” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَأَنَّهُ يُكَابِدُ مِئَةَ جَاهِلٍ
And that he struggles against a hundred ignorant people.
مائَة — a hundred. This is a number word, 'a hundred', functioning as the object of the verb, in the accusative as the thing contended with. In Arabic the noun counted after 'hundred' stays singular and (genitive), which is why the next word is singular. It may be literal or a hyperbole for 'very many'.
