How to say “afflictions” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
مِنَ الْمَصَائِبِ الشَّدِيدَةِ وَالْبَلَايَا الْعَظِيمَةِ،
Among the severe calamities and the great afflictions,
وَالْبَلَايَا — and the afflictions. The wa- links a second example onto the first with 'and', and the al- marks this plural as definite. Coordinated with the calamities, it shares their 'of' (genitive) role under the earlier 'among', adding the great afflictions to the list of specific hardships.
