Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be about to” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
فَلَا يَسْمَعُ أَمْرًا يُكَادَانِ بِهِ إِلَّا وَعَاهُ،
So he did not hear of any matter that nearly affected the two of them without being aware of it.
يُكَادَانِ — the two of them are about to be affected. A two-people verb form: the '-an' tail means the subject is exactly two, and the inner vowel pattern is passive, so the pair are on the receiving end ('are nearly affected') rather than doing anything. It opens a description of the 'matter' just named.
