Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be deceived” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا تَغْتَرَّْ بِسَعَةِ بِسَاطٍ الْحُلْمِ؛
Do not be deceived by the wide expanse of forbearance.
تغترر — be deceived. A present-tense 'you' verb on a self-affecting pattern, here passive in sense, 'be taken in / be deceived'. The prohibitive negator before it has clipped it into the jussive shape and turned it into a 'do not...' command. So two things sit here: the trimmed ending marks it as forbidden, and the pattern makes the subject the one fooled.
