How to say “be deprived” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
حُرِمُوا وَاللَّهِ الْوُصُولَ،
By God, they were deprived of attainment.
حُرِمُوا — they were deprived. A past-tense verb in the passive: its inside vowels are reshaped so the people RECEIVE the action of depriving rather than doing it, something deprived them. The -u ending carries the 'they' that undergoes it. Arabic marks the passive by these inner vowel changes, not by a helper word like English 'were'.
