How to say “be disgraced” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
لِئَلا يُخْزَى بَيْنَ الْحَاضِرِينَ ،
Lest he be disgraced among those present.
يُخْزَى — be disgraced. A passive present-tense verb: he is the one disgraced, not the one who disgraces. Arabic marks the passive by shifting the inner vowels rather than adding a helper word, and the subjunctive shape forced by the 'lest' before it shows this is the outcome being warded off.
