Arabic vocabulary
How to say “be summoned” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَلَا يَدْرِي مَتَى يُسْتَدْعَى
And he does not know when he will be summoned.
يُسْتَدْعَى — he will be summoned. This is the passive of the verb 'to summon': it reports that he will be called without naming who calls, leaving the summoner unstated. Arabic forms this passive by changing the verb's inner vowels rather than adding a helper word, keeping the focus on the man as the one acted upon.
