How to say “befall” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتَمَنَّى أَنْ يَلْحَقَ بِهِ
And he wished that it would befall him.
يَلْحَقَ — befall. A present verb in the subjunctive because the 'an' before it demands that mood, shown by the altered ending. It carries its 'it/he' subject inside and leads into the 'with/upon him' phrase. The subjunctive frames the catching-up as the content of the wish.
