How to say “he wished” in Arabic, with pronunciation and an example from OpenArabic texts.
وَتَمَنَّى أَنْ يَلْحَقَ بِهِ
And he wished that it would befall him.
وَتَمَنَّى — and he wished. Opens with a narrative connector 'wa-' carrying the story forward, joined to a past verb of wishing that holds its 'he' subject inside. The 'wa-' here is the storytelling 'and then'. The verb sets up a following 'that' clause naming what he wished for.
